Competition Introduction, Handbook and Rules

Tring competitions are a great way to share your work with other members, get inspiration from those images and obtain feedback for your own images. These are not "cutthroat" events; they are good fun and intended to help you learn. Feel free to approach any members to ask them for guidance.

We have a saying at the club which is to encourage everyone to enter: ‘Don’t be shy, give it a try’!

Competitions Overview

We hold 6 competitions each year - 3 are digital and 3 are print. Each member is in one of 3 groups based on their experience as a photographer. This encourages friendly competition between members of similar experience. At the end of the year, for any member who has entered 8 or more images throughout the season, we award to trophy to whoever does best in each group.

All images in these competitions are scored by members and not by a Judge. However, we do have a Judge on the competition evening who gives a critique of at least one image per member who entered the competition.

For Digital (PDI) Competitions, prior to the competition evening, any member of the club can score the images within the Info Centre. The scores are then used to generate the winners and runners-up in each skill group that are then announced on the competition evening.

For print competitions, members also enter their images using Dropbox before the deadline, but on the competition evening, the members bring their mounted prints and place them on display boards. The attendees are then given a scoring sheet so that they can review each print and jot down a score. After the evening the competition team calculate the results and announce them by email.

We encourage everyone to join in, so please read the documents below on how to enter the competitions
